Vapour Trails

Vapour TrailsOpis:Product Description This new studio album continues a period of renewed artistic activity by the legendary cult band Tuxedomoon. Having risen from the heady atmosphere of San Francisco's postpunk golden age during the late '70s, Tuxedomoon fled Reagan's America for Europe in 1980. Since that time they have been ever-present on the Continent's avant-garde scene. After living together in Brussels for the greater part of the '80s and '90s, Tuxedomoon fled to distant corners of the planet. 2004 found them back together for 'Cabin in the Sky' and in 2006 they released 'Bardo Hotel'. 'Vapour Trails' was composed while being recorded in a series of sessions between the Acropolis and the pilgrim road to the Eleusian fields in Athens. It finds the members, vocalist, clarinetist, saxophonist and keyboarder Steven Brown, bassist and producer Peter Principle, vocalist, violinist, guitarist and laptop botherer Blaine L. Reininger and trumpeter Luc van Lieshout in top form, exploiting their mature vision and instrumental skills to the full. They load their eclectic pallet with a wide and surprising variety of styles and influences, and sing in the languages of the many places they have lived or visited, singing this time not only in English, but in Greek, Spanish, and languages of their own devising. 'Vapour Trails' happens to come out in the year of the 30th anniversary of Tuxedomoon. To mark this occasion, Crammed will also be releasing a limited-edition boxed set entitled '77o7 tm'. Join us in celebrating the life and work of this unique group of individuals. We give you, the one, the only Tuxedomoon ("they put the cult into culture"). Personnel: Steven Brown - (saxophones, clarinet, piano, organ, keyboards, vocals), Peter Principle - (bass, guitar, backup vocals), Blaine L. Reininger - (violin, viola, guitar, keyboards, laptop, vocals), Luc van Lieshout - (trumpet, flugelhorn, harmonica) Review Although Tuxedomoon originated from San Francisco, they all moved to Holland, then Belgium in the early 1980s, at the height of their cultish popularity. Originally part of the Ralph Records/Residents axis of strangeness they now occupy a jazzier niche.
Yet geographically everything's gone even stranger, as this decade has found them scattered across Mexico, Greece and the USA, with only trumpeter, Luc Van Lieshut, remaining in Brussels. The band's other three members are longer-serving, with Blaine L. Reininger (violin, guitar, laptop), Steven Brown (reeds 'n' keys) and Peter Principle (bass) being the creators of the classic Half Mute and Desire albums. This scattering has led to cross-ocean file-transmission, which might be one reason why their songs are so swirlingly layered, so rich with thickened textures.
In recent times, many solo projects have surfaced, and Tuxedomoon have refined their image as movie soundtrackers, without necessarily being involved in an actual filmic project. This is the way their music sounds anyway, infused with the exotic melancholia of Euro-isolation, even if this might not, in reality, exist in the real domain. Particularly since the smoking ban. When there's a vocal, it's often in a different language to the last, spread in-between instrumental stretches that are pulsing with Principle's tarry basslines, webbed with spectral clarinet or saxophone phrases, and crowned by speckles of muted trumpet.
Sometimes, Tuxedomoon can't escape a Berlin-era Bowie coldness, but mostly they're proud displayers of a diverse collection of influences that end up combining to create something entirely their own. They still possess a 1980's vocabulary, but that doesn't have to be such a retro stance nowadays, particularly when re-invented via laptoppery. To celebrate thirty years of loveable strangeness, Tuxedomoon are also releasing 77o7 tm, a box set of their finest hours, but Vapour Trails shows them to still be a force to be reckoned with. --Martin LongleyFind more music at the BBC This link will take you off AmazoAutor:TuxedomoonNośnik:Audio CDPłyt:Język: Data wydania: 2008Waga: 0.18 gramWysokość: 0.4 cmSzerokość: 4.09 cmDługość: 5.04 cmUWAGA: Kupując produkt na tej aukcji zgadzasz się na wydłużony termin realizacji wysyłki (10-14 dni roboczych).
